1. HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT
University has started the teaching Department of Library and Information Science in the year 2007 to offer LIS eduction at PG and Research level. These Programmes with updated curriculum in meeting present needs of government, academic, corporate libraries and information industries to ensure the employability.

Dr. S.Srinivasa Ragavan,

He is presently working as Librarian in charge and Head of the Department of Library and Information Science, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirappalli. He was heading the libraries of NAAC, NERIST, engineering and medical institutes and posses 18 years of professional experience. He has organized 8 workshops and seminars at national level, sponsored by NAAC, ISTE of AICTE, INFLIBNET and other agencies. He has also been teaching library and information Science at P.G. level since l990 and M. Phil. level since 2003. He also has been awarded a project by MHRD in developing Digital Technical Library and instrumental in implementing automation and digital libraries in the institutions where he served. He has guided 40 M.Phil Students and guiding 8 Ph.D Scholars. He has presented more than 40 papers in National/ International conferences and also he published 7 articles both national and international journals.

He has completed MLIS, M. Phil. from Annamalai University and also cleared UGC-NET exam in the year December 2005 and also worked as trainee in J. R. D. Tata Memorial Library, Indian Institute of Science at Bangalore. He has worked as Department Lirbarian at Indian Institute of Science and also completed Information and Knowledge Management Course at National Centre for Science Information in Indian Institute of Science at bangalore. He has presented more than 70 papers in National/ International conferences and also he published 4 articles both National and International journals.

He has presented more than 16 papers in National/ International conferences and also has guided 03 M.Phil Students.

o Conducted UGC Refresher course in Library and Information Science for LIS Professionals from 23.12.2008 to 12.01.2009.
o Educational visit to the libraries of IIT madras, British Library, SRM University,Anna University for students.
5. ACTIVITIES /SCHEMES PROPOSED (2009-2010)
o Minor and Major projects will be proposed in thrust areas of LIS.
o Proposed to convene a International conference sponsored by INFLIBNET
o Placement activities for the students at corporate sectors and Academic Institutions.
